Trying to model a TH&B loco that they bought from the New York Central, it was a J1d and I was wondering if the broadway limited model could be modified to fit? thanks for any info!

According to the book “Thoroughbreds,” by Al Staufer, about the NYC Hudsons, the main external difference between the J-1d and J-1e classes was the type of feedwater heater.
The J-1d had an Elesco tank or bundle-type feedwater heater recessed into the smokebox, but the ends of this unit protruded on each side ahead of the smokestack. The J-1e class used two different types, but the Broadway Limited model specifically represents the 5344, which had a Coffin feedwater heater entirely recessed into the smokebox.
The 5344 also had roller-bearing tender trucks (represented on the BLI model) which the J-1d class did not.
With different tender trucks, the addition of the partially Elesco feedwater heater tank, and some relatively minor piping changes, the J-1e can be modified into a very credible J-1d. (That’s easy for me to say, because I’m not going to do it!)
