I grabbed this off of a yahoo group I belong to. I mainly check it to see if I can find photos of trains I crewed. But there was an interesting discussion. A westbound train left its point of origin with a rarer model engine. That made the list. The train stops in a yard enroute to do a setoff or pickup, and in the course, the rare engine goes from leader to slot #5. I don’t know the exact reason - maybe there was something wrong with it and it couldn’t lead. But on the positive side for the crew - a nice new GE equipped with air conditioning (not present on the old engine) and a much more comfortable cab was put as the leader. One railfan response:
__*WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*__
_!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some crappy GEVO was leading on the ****** (edited out) Line, it was in slot five and running. I hope the crew didn't have_
__*something to do with this because it didn't have AC or whatever the*__
__*hell crews complain about.*__
Wow. So, think I would ever contribute information to a list that has this gentleman(?) as a member? Think I would give him any kind of head’s up? Sorry, but the next time that rare engien leads - I hope no one says a word until after the fact, just so that loser can’t get a photo. Long two days… i just had to vent.
Wahhhh, wahhh… So he didn’t get his photo. Big deal. Assumeing it was the AC, lets see him run in a hot cab all day with out it and then see what he says. Something tells me there was a reason for the change (they don’t do those things just to PO railfans) that far outweight his selfish needs. Din’t get me wrong, I like a good photo op too, but I know those trains are not run just for my amusement.
Those new GEVOs are really something to see anyway…the new locomotives are bigger and more powerful…what’s not to like?..so he didn’t get to see an old GP9 leading…poor thang…
This is the reason 99.9% of railroaders don’t care for “rail buffs” or whatever the politically correct term is. This is also the reason we don’t often read these forums or give the heads up if something is in our train worth seeing. What a jerk. And while we are on the topic; I hope the guy that came out at 9p.m. to take pictures of my train with the ten billion watt flash got all of my finger in the last couple of shots.
Sorry had to rant too…6 starts in 4 days, I’m a little tired of these guys giving me the dirty look, for having my window open on a sd-40 on a 95 degree day.
Thats a railfan for ya. Alot of em like to complain…weather, motive power, train speed and the ever so controversial… graffiti. Maybe most of them dont complain to the extent of this guy we’re talkin about but still there is complaining.
I will say in comparison to other sites this site has far far less complainers than other sites. I really havnt noticed much at all here.
Im curious to who this guy really is. I know of a railfan that can get “extreme” like this guy and I swear after I saw that line I was thinkin its just gotta be him.
I didn’t care that he moaned about the dinosaur engine being moved… it was the fact that he “dissed” crews in general. (like they would ever listen to us anyhow… if they did we’d all have new BNSF engines on the point!)
The guy is one of those that is always posting about every train on the division at all times. So either he is 14, retired, unemployed, or does nothing at work except listen to the scanner (ugh). He is one of those “if it is new - it must suck” kind of fans. People on the list also argue whether the first letter in an extra train syymbol is a 0 (zero) or O (oh). I’ve gotten those trains, and I could never tell the difference… not really that important in the grand scheme of things.
