Someone in a mr forum I belong to picked up a Vivitar digital camera for $10.00 from Walgreens. Here is a link to the forum with results of this camera. I just bought one for myself. I have a Cannon Power Shot A70 but this little camera does just fine. Yes, I can hear the naysayers but the results speak.
It is a very basic camera but it works very well for mr picture taking. Good for close ups, though good lighting is a definite advantage no matter what the camera. The link shows a Innovage brand but it is the same camera. Walgreen’s sells the Vivitar brand.
Wonder if it’s got a timer function. It’d be cool to mount it on a flatbed and take photos of the layout/trackside scenery from the train’s viewpoint.
Saw on DPReview.com that Canon’s 40D is now a reality. However, as my 30D didn’t just die or become a terrible camera overnight with the new replacement’s announcement, I’ll stick with it and wait for the 50D in about 18-24 months…
The camera is not for everyone. It would maybe be nice for someone starting out though I realize some people have trouble with anything involving computers.
It does have a 10 sec timer. No removable storage. Memory is 16mb.
I have a Canon with closeup lense but there are so many confusing options that I have never been able to get quality close photos. I need four hands for the camera and instruction book. It would require a course on using cameras like this for close up work. Those of you say that is easy forget what it was like when you first tried to do good close up work.
