I just ordered a new Digitrax DN163K1C decoder for my Athearn SD70 and it arrived today. As I was installing I thought for a second that the LEDs were missing. Then I noticed that they had actually used SMD LEDs. Much to my delight I did not have to file anything to get it to fit properly since they were so small.
I’m not that current on newer Athearn stuff, when did they start using Mashima motors? It’s kind of ironic since I’ve been using Mashimas to remotor my Athearns for 20 years.
I am not sure about the motors, the last two Athearn SD70s I purchased have had them.
even more irony is that the owner of mashima is retiring and if nobody takes over the company, the mashima motors will no longer be produced.
