I want to subdivide my layout into power subdistricts so that if there is a short, it would be easier to localize. I have purchased the PM42 to go with the Digitrax system that I am using. I would like to know if I need to insulate both rail A and B (I think that I do) between subdistricts? And do I need to do anything with the mainline bus wires? I will eventually be adding a second booster, will this effect my bus wires around the layout?
According to the PM42 manual, page 4, “tracks should be double gapped between adjacent power districts.”
You will have to run a pair of wires from each circuit breaker to the district it is protecting. Any track feeders must only be connected to it’s respective buss pair. Both rails must have insulated joiners where one district ends and the next one begins.
