Digitrax DH123

After using many Digitrax decoders ex. DH 121 with great success…Digitrax has now upgraded this unit to DH123…
But low and behold, they have not advised that this unit does not perform like earlier units… You must disable some of the previous features to get it to work with (like) earlier units (decoders)…
How many of you are aware of these changes? Digitrax did not enclose any data on how to do this in their decoder packaging??

Please be more specific about what you are referring to.

Hello ElectroMotive!

Can you describe in detail what exact features have to be effected? Many of us are new to DCC and need the details.

Also. Did you e-mail Digitrax and ask them about what you described? If you e-mail them, they’re usually pretty good about replying. If you call or e-mail, give us the heads up on the reply. Thanks guy!

Peace out!

Digitrax reply:
The DH123 (series 3) decoder has a lot of new features and therefore acts a
little different.
In order to have this decoder perform like the older versions, you must
disable some of the features that are ON by default.
First, set CV9 to xFF or 255 in decimal.
next, set CV54 and 57 to x00 or 000

You can also achieve further adjustments by changing the start, mid and max
voltage on that decoder…
(end of e-mail)

The above info is not included with decoder, …even my dealer had no info??

How do you tell if you have the series 3??

The fifth character is the series #.
The part number works like this:

First character> D= Digital
Second> Size Z,N,H or G. The smallest scale the decoder is designed to fit.
Third> Current rating. 1.25 &1.5 amp are 1, 3.5 amp is 3
Fourth> number of functions
Fifth> Series

How many of you have used this unit DH123???
What did you do to set it up to operate properly, when no data was supplied in pkg???

I have used the DH123. I hard wired it to the engine. I changed the lighting effects and the address with no problems. It operated “properly” out of the box [tup]. I had no DH121 baggage to contend with however. [:D]

This is info no Digitrax decoder owner should be without.

The reason the DH123s run slower than the DH121s is that they have the high
frequency PWM or “Quiet Drive”. If you set CV09 to a value of 255/xFF in the
DH123s, they will run very close to the speed of the DH121s.
