This is my first post. I have been in and out of model railroading for most of my life. I have just recently started again and purchased a EZ command system. I like it but as everyone knows its very limited. It was ok until I wanted to add Digitrax sound. I needed to purchase the PR3 so I could program CV’s. Ok so all is good right? Not really. The sound of the engine starting and idleing happens as soon as I turn the system on. It dosnt matter what address it has or what address is selected on the EZ command. The other sounds like bell, horn, acceleration only work when the address is selected but it will idle all the time. Does anyone know if it can be fixed?
This is not a problem unique to the Bachmann EZ Command system – all DCC systems put a signal on the track as soon as they’re turned on. There might be a CV in the decoder that can be changed to stop the sound from coming on until you select the address. You’ll have to download the Digitrax Sound FX technical reference manual or whatever it’s called to get the CV number.
It is not just the DCC signal causing it to produce sound, a Digitrax sound decoder normally will not produce sound until it sees it’s address. Since the Bachmann EZ Command only has 10 addresses, I suspect that it continuously outputs data for all 10 addresses.
