im going to need at least 1 tethered throttle for my new layout, im using the digitrax zephyr as my command station. now, of the different digitrax throttles, keeping in mind i dont want any wireless so please dont suggest it. Which of thier tethered throttles gives the most bang for the buck
I like the UT2’s because they are cost effective and has 2 digit programming capabilities

Digitrax is also coming out with a new UT4 throttle that according to the Radio equipped version it has 4 digit capabilities (I assume it will be the same as the tethered throttle).

in my eye its the dt400 it does it all. easy to aquire 4 number adresses, better than the dt100 did.
also does 12 funtions and its back lite, also has a led flashlight on it for help in the dark.
and if you want it can be used wireless with out the extra expense.(if you change your mind)

I vote for the DT400, as stated above it does just about everything.
If you want to do everything, the DT400 is the way to go. If you just want a simple throttle to run trains and not worry about programming and so forth, the UT4 is the way to go. It should be available any day now,as the expected delivery was last week now. There are pictures of near-production units on the internet so you can get an idea of what it will look like. Nice thing about the UT4 is that there will also be a radio version of it, unlike the older UT1 and UT2. Plus of course the UT4 supports 4-digit addresses directly. You CAN get UT1’s VERY inexpensively these days, but for one to run a loco with a 4 digit address you’d have to select the loco on the Zephyr and then dispatch it. The UT1 user would then dial up 99 and acquire the dispatched loco.

The DT400 is really nice, but ‘spendy’. I have a Palm Pilot(M105) that has the special Digitrax cable and software - it makes a real nice ‘throttle’. The ‘LocoPalm’ software allows very simple engine dispatching. I use it for the ‘yard’ throttle, and use my 2DT400R and 2 DT100R throttles for through trains. I normally set up new visitors and give them a DT100R to run their train. The DT100 series has been replaced by the DT300 series.
Actually it looks like the UT4 is now officially released, there is now a picture of it on the Digitrax web site and you can download the manual.
Looks like the perfect cab to use to simply run trains, just a big knob and a toggle switch, you can access all 12 functions so you can make all the sounds work, and that’s it. No programming or other things to break if someone fumbles around and starts hitting buttons.

sounds like UT4 may be the way to go for me, i plan on doing all programming off the mainline. I also like saving money
