To Mr. Guse of Illinois… You took nine lines of space to make a point… The problem is, no one can figure out what your point is…
May I add my $0.02? Thoughtful, critical thinking and opinions are always in order on a board like this. We don’t all see things the same way, and looking at an issue from someone else’s perspective can enlighten one’s own thinking. But if a poster isn’t interested in seeing rail - passenger rail, in this case - make progress, why bother posting here? Instead, why not write to and support one’s do-nothing Congressman who also opposes rail?
Well, I read in Trains magazine of Pennsylvania T-1 steam locomotives doing 120mph on the Chicago to NYC route. That was in the 1930s. So what have we accomplished for a couple billion? Amtrak and Illinois could have purchased a dozen Boeing 737s and flown everyone with money left over after fuel, crews and airports were staffed.
Why no pictures of the train?
Hey Mr. Burnett how many of the small towns which are intermediate stops on the Chicago - St. Louis run have airports that can handle a 737??? You just do not seem to get it. It is not just people in the big cities that use passenger rail, the smaller cities just do not have reasonably priced air service if any at all.

Make this service available to the taxpayers…The publicity photos don’t qualify for “political party” chit chat. If Romney wins, high speed rail will dry up along with AMTRAK.
Be wise–vote for rail progress.
