I recently order the Digtrax SEBXD Super Empire Builder Xtra wireless starter set. I already have a MRC TrainPower 6200 with input of 120 VAC 60HZ that i think i can use as the power supply.
Here are the specs.
It has two output modes, 1) is 0 to18.5VDC 35VA Max 18VAC total 60VA
2 is 0 to 14VDC 27VA max 18 VAC total 52VA
in reading the Digitrax instructions i am not clear if i connect the AC terminals to Digitrax DB150 or the DC terminals
If i connect the AC terminals output modes don’t matter
If i connect the DC the throttle has to be full on? and in which mode.
Any help in understanding the basics would be appreciated.
Why not use a power supply that is intended for DCC? Digitrax and NCE make quality 5 amp power supplies for around 50 bucks. Using a power supply designed for DC use will give you issues and gremlins that will cause you grief. 50 bucks is a small price to pay for reliable DCC fun.

The Trainpower 6200 doesn;t have enough current to properly handle the DB150. As you add more locos the 6200 will start to drop voltage which will cause all sorts of crazy things to happen. FOr testing things out and running a single loco to verify it all works you shoudl be fine, but for permanent isntallation use a proper power supply that can suppyl the required 5 amps for full funcitonality.

I have a Digitrax Superchief Xtra Duplex Radio 8 amp system. I bought an NCE 10 amp supply…no issues. It’s worth having equipment designed for DCC use, I think.

Thank you for suggestions on power supply, I will order the digitrax power supply. But in the mean tine i want to test out new equipment. I want to temporarily use the TrainPower 6200 as the power supply.
Do I connect AC or DC TrainPower 6200 terminals to the Digitrax DB150?
Since you are ordering an AC power supply for your DB150, those inputs go into the terminals the manual says should receive them. Then, on the consol with all the terminal slots, you will find the labels for “Rail A” and “Rail B” unless they have changed that in the past six years since I got mine. The bus wires powering the rails go into those two slots. Essentially, your power input goes in the right two slots if I recall the orientation correctly, and the outputs to power the rails in the left two.

Us ethe AC, that’s fixed voltage, so hitting the throttle knob or the mode switch won;t change anything. It’s a little high but within the range allowed by Digitrax. Mode 1 full throttle, the DC output is just about perfect to run wit the DB150 set in the HO setting, although if you turn the throttle down or change to Mode II the voltage will drop too low.
