Dim ditch lights on Broadway Limited AC6000CW

I received my BLI AC6000. It looks & sounds great. But the ditch lights are VERY dim. I e-mailed BLI and was told that “You can make them brighter if you don’t mind tinkering with the model a little. There’s a light tube running from the LED into the ditch light housing. This light tube has some black paint on it. The black paint is probably too thick on your model. If you remove this, the lights should brighten significantly. We will improve this on our next run.” I couldn’t figure out how to remove the loco shell (no instructions in the book) so I e-mailed back for help on this and got “You don’t need to remove the shell. Remove the four handrail posts from the platform where the ditch light housings are and then you can pull the platform straight out of the front of the shell.”

I did this and when I pulled this platform off, there were 2 clear “tubes” that stuck out of the back of the platform about 1/2" that would go up inside the loco (straight in from the front, underneath the front cab door area). They were almost completely covered w/ black paint. I removed the paint from both tubes, but saw VERY little improvement in the ditch light brightness.

Anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions? How do I remove the loco shell? Maybe the LED is out of place & the light isn’t getting to the light tubes. I’ve waited a long time for this loco (ordered around Sept/Oct '06). Like I said it looks & sounds great, just bad ditch lights.

Thanx

Hello all

Juste yesterday I disassembled my BLI AC6000, (and older stealth series:No sound DC unit) because the engine has jerky running and “blinking” headlights, i found a broken wire and I welded in its place, the unit has low ditch lights and these one are dim, there is no “clear tube” as BLI says, and the LED is a little away from lenses, so this is the reason that the headlights are dim , maybe a optical fiber could be the solution.

To disassembly the unit is similar procedure of Kato and Intermountain engines: Take out the couplers, gently press on loco body at front, middle and rear of engine and pull the body aparts from chassis

I hope that helps you this info
