Can someone give me the dimensions of the coal dump pit for the Walthers Northern Light and Power station? I’m thinking of kit-bashing a small coal-fired powerhouse and need some idea of the size of the dump pit. I’ve done a few searches and have found dump pits for coaling towers but no power houses. Since the Walthers unit appears to be about the size I am contemplating, I feel that it’s coal pit would give me an idea of the right size for my effort. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Haven’t assembled the power house kit yet, but the top grate is 4" by 1 5/8". It is mounted under the track (cut away any ties the length of the grate. Hope this helps. HO by the way.
edit: the chute is about 1" deep with coal opening in bottom 1/2" by 4". Hope this helps.
Thanks Novicerr. The dimensions are just what I was looking for. Good luck building your kit. The Walthers kits that I have built have all been fun and have turned out well.
IIRC Walthers stated that the plant stored coal in a basement bunker and fed the furnace(s) with a conveyor system. I do recall though that the kit is based on a prototypical power plant built in downtown Milwaukee area. I myself would go with a slightly taller coal trestle and front loader.
