After 10 years I thought I would complete theis project and I recall seing a “how to” in MR but can not locate it now. Any one have an idea on installing this. I bought all the electrics including the resistors at Radio Shack back in "99. For DC operation. Thanks All…
Try searching the MR index at this site. I tried with
directional lighting for a Bowser L-1#### but did not come up with much. Knowing the proper words to use might help.

If you’re using a 12V bulb, all you need is a diode connected to the bulb so electrical current will only flow in one direction. That’s what I did for my Bowser L-1, and it works just fine![:D]
diodes are directional. they will let current flow in one direction only. So once you figure out which way lights the headlight when going forward reverse the connections for the rear headlight and they will only light when traveling in the proper direction.
I found an article in the March 1988 issue of RMC which outlines a circuit for constant steam locomotive lighting with directional control. The main innovation here is utilising a wireless drawbar as part of the circuitry, but it will also work for locos with an insulated drawbar…
I can’t, of course, post the article here, but I may be able to scan it and send it to you as a PM (“Conversation”).
A search of the magazine index turned up two other applicable articles, one in the November 1983 issue of MR and another in the October 1986 issue of MR. I don’t, unfortunately, have either on hand.
