What recent issues of MR had stories about how to model dirt roads?
Bump Someone should know.
In the mean time check out Mel’s dirt roads
The archives search for “dirt road” brings up 103 results, in MR issues from 1965 to 2020.
Maybe Google Modeling a dirt road, as I just did, and see all of the videos and articles that show up.

Yes, I would suggest reading about it or watching online. I did that. I then get some sand that I used on wet brown paint. It seems with dirt road that they don’t need to be arrow straight.
I posted this about 36 hours ago in a thread further down… similar question
You could also check http://www.pacificcoastairlinerr.com/scenery/clods/ which shows old dirt roads.
On an On30 layout I did here in Australia for an exhibiton layout with a club, I copied a friends idea of squashing and sieving a yellowish clay cat litter … Looked very effective in my view but I would say that.
The layout is show on these pages

If you want to go the video route, Paul scoles did a video on that. Also see YouTube Luke Towan who has a couple different dirt roads on moduals. Marklinofsweden did one using tile grout. Nice effect. Kathy millet I do believe did one to one one of her modals.
