disappointed

Im a new surscriber and waited so long for my first issue to turn up in the post.

It arrived today and is so badly creased it makes it hard to read. Seems to have been folded over and over in the mail system. Hope my future issues to be sent can be marked “Do not fold or bend”.

…it may help… :frowning:

Does this happen often? I know it came along way to where I live here in Sydney Australia but one expects better condidtion on arriving.

;Thanks

Mark

Mark, yes it does happen, and it happens to Sky and Telescope, Psychology Today, Parenting, and any number of other magazines that leave the printing shop’s delivery trucks for other destinations.

Please contact customer service (link in larger print in the blue section, at its head, much further down this page). They’ll fix you up and you are sure to get one decent copy out of the two. And, I would keep at them every time something goes wrong. Their printer will eventually hear of it, and hopefully something will change if they get enough complaints.

Maybe the crew on the plane were reading it half way around the world? The navigator is thinking he can build a portable 4x8 and have something to play with on those long flights.

Seriously, though, I suggest you contact subscription services here and ask them if they’ll provide another copy. Those magazines aren’t cheap you know. And I’m sure you have to pay extra for international shipment.

I would complain to your postmaster. Then write a polite letter or email to MRR explaining what condition you received the mag. My subscription to MRR and trains is shipped naked (no wrapper or plastic sleeve) and they arrive OK. You are probably not the only subscriber in Australia. Possibly Kalmbach will replace the issue and ship further copies in a liner or wrapper.

Oh no. naked! I wonder if Playboy does that too? Remember when MR arrived in a nice manila envelope with the Model Railroder logo on it.? I seem to recall Railroad Model Craftsman arrived in a plastic bag but no more.

Interestlingly, I ordered three of the Trains4Kids magazines for some of my younger relation and a friend’s son and they were all wrapped individually in clear plastic and inside a padded envelope to boot. No postage charged.

Uh, I just re-started my subscription to MR and I have received two issues so far. Both came in a clear plastic cover. No damage. I thought MR had changed their delivery process to include the cover? Maybe Not ALL distribution/printers have the plastic covers in place yet, OR am I just lucky?

Interesting Galaxy. Mine always arrive “plain”. This could very well be a distributor specific thing.

There is actually a magazine called “Parenting”??? Amazing…some things these days never sease to amaze me…

Mark

I live on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, mine rocked up in a large evelope with a plastic sleeve inside. I just cant believe Aust post, honestly! it takes about 3 days for my parcels to arrive in Australia from the states, but another 10 days before it even comes close to being at my door! Hence i have only just received the dec copy of mm.

I was in a gas station a few years back, waiting for whatever to be done to my car. The magazine selection was pretty slim. I settled on “Potato Chipper - The Magazine of the Snack Food Industry.”

I worked as a seasonal letter carrier for the Post Office while I was in college. We all rejoiced when the Playboys came in every month. It was standard procedure to carefully remove them from their green sleeves and open up the centerfold, then replace the covering before delivery.

I think “Parenting” is a free, advertiser-supported give-away. It’s in all the doctors’ offices. At my hockey rink, there used to be a sign by the door - “Please do not leave Parenting magazine.”

That’s interesting Shulzie,

I live in Brisbane’s western suburbs and got the January issue before Christmas. Mine arrives in a plastic bag with an address sheet inside. I’ve only had one magazine in 5 years that was damaged and not as bad as the OP stated. They used to come via NZ then France. I can’t remember what the latest one’s route to Australia was. I guess they bulk mail from wherever is giving them a good deal.

Oh yeah the shops still have November on their shelves a few days ago.

cheers

ya that happens to me some times, any flooded tracks in Brisbane Australia. i herd on the news about the floods, just be glad that you dont live in the usa and have to deal with the snow.
