Disassembling Front Engine of Spectrum 2-6-6-2

My second (sound) Spectrum 2-6-6-2 was delivered with the front and rear engine driver sets in the same relative position, example - both sets of main rods and big ends moving through 6:00 o’clock at the same time and in synchronization. Visually the rod motions are not as interesting as having the rods in different relative positions to each other, as with my first 2-6-6-2.

Also in the real world it would have been unusual for the two engine driver sets to have remained in such close synchronization.

What is the procedure for disassembling the front engine so that the positions can be changed? I have not found a diagram or the securing screws.

Thanks for help.

I have the Spectrum 2-6-6-2, but it’s a first run non DCC loco, so I’m only going to take a guess. There are two screws on the bottom plate of the first set of drivers. I should think that removing those screws, lifting up the plate and gently lifting up the drivers to temporarily disengage the middle driver from the worm gear and rotating the driver set to whatever position you desire, should solve the problem. Unfortunately, Spectrum does not seem to include exploded diagrams with all of their steamers.

I had a similar problem with their USRA Mountain, finding out exactly how to lift off the boiler so that I could superdetail it. Luckily, another forum member showed me where the mounting screws were.

Hope this helps.
