Discovery Channel Wed 7/28 - Port of Long Beach

An ad in the L A Times says that the Discovery Channel will have a show about the Long Beach, CA port and Megaships on Wednesday night at 9PM. Containerized freight is transferred from ship to rail there.

Cool, gonna have to check it out. 8PM Central time for me.

The Travel Channel did something similar about ports not so long ago. That was a good program too.

Does any one know if the History Channel will run Trains Unlimited again?

Never knew they did to begin with. I know the local PBS station use to air that from time to time.

As for the Port of Long Beach show, that was simply amazing to watch. Few shots of BNSF in there including one that was derailed. What a site it must be to see something like this in person. 6300 containers unloaded plus 6300 reloaded in 48 hours! Talk about speed racer lol.

I think Im going to look into being a port crane operator. My eyes got big when I heard they make $200,000 a year.[:0] Im sure its well deserved too.

I agree it’s amazing how fast, and accurate, these guys are. And the money can’t hurt! Some of the other trades (clerks I think) work Monday-Friday, but other jobs work seven days.

Do you mean “Tracks Ahead”? I have never heard of “Trains Unlimited” on PBS.

The History Channel had a show called Trains Unlimited. It would run for about an hour on Saturdays about 8 years ago. I remember Pennsylvania station was one of the topics and then Great Train Disasters.
I know Tracks ahead on PBS love the show. Just love the history of Trains Unlimited. I guess I will need to buy the DVD from the History Channel.

Yeah I get them mixed up sorry. Either way would like to see either one some time soon.

Tracks ahead is on every sat around here

It has been a decade since it was been on here.

I don’t think it has been that long since they cancelled “Trains Unlimited”. The thing I didn’t like is that they a show devoted to ATSF and one to PRR but not to any other railroad.
