I saw the remainder of the automobile in which the 14 year old girl was killed when the auto was struck by a BN/Metra commuter train. I was commuting on the Metra line at the time and we were delayed. When we crawled by the wreckage I saw it and thought, “No one came out of that alive.”
Well the driver did make it out alive, but his young sister was killed. The teenagers’ father has been the epitome of responsibility despite his tragic loss. He’s formed a grade crossing safety promotion group and that group is justifiably upset with Disney.
It wouldn’t hurt to send Disney an email trying to get them to cut that incredibly stupid sceen from the DVD.
Everyone gives Disney a hard time due to the message it sends kids. I wish everyone would give one of America’s greatest institutions a break. It is not as though Disney included an underwearless Jessica Rabit in Who Framed Roger Rabit, put–since we are in mixed company–a “sexual symbol” on the cover of the Little Mermaid, regularly includes nasty symbols in the back grounds of their cartoons, and it is not like encouraging kids to beat a train could actually lead to death or physical injury. People get too excited over . . .
[tap on the shoulder: uhm, Gabe, Disney did all of those things and glorifying beating a train to the crossing can result in death and personal injury]
Ohhhhh . . . . . Carry on.
Gabe
P.S. Sorry to offend all of you Disney lovers out their, but everything about Disney has gone down hill in the last twenty years.
Gabe, show me evidence that Jessica rabbit is in fact wearing underwear. (no matter how I phrase that it’s not going to sound right)
She may have been drawn BAD … but I never saw any panty lines !
I would research the answer to this question, but despite my best advocacy skills, I don’t think I could explain this one to my wife if she caught me researching Jessica Rabit on the internet.
Things at my house would get “hairy.” Sorry, I cannot resist a bad punn.
If we are going to rely on Disney to teach our children common sense (like don’t race a train to the crossing) then we would best give them up for adoption. There was all kinds of unsafe behavior in the movie ‘Cars’ that could warrant a letter-if we were relying on Disney to teach ANYONE about safe or unsafe behavior.
I happen to think that Cars was a great movie and that my children will be watching it in the near future.
yeah they sure have. It is all part of the learning process. Another key is that they learn for themselves to establish what is risky behavior so they don’t need me to continually admoni***hem. And they can enjoy the movie too.
This may sound harsh, but it would be hard to do some post-learning admonishing to someone that is now blugsplat on the front of a locomotive or wrapped around a tree…
yes that is true. All the same, I will tell my kids when they turn 16 (a long time from now) that they shouldn’t race trains. This isn’t going to prevent me from taking them to see the movie. I sure as hell am not going to take them to see some of hollywood’s other ‘family’ movies (gayback mountain).
I’m with Dan,
The rabbit’s wife is pretty hot…
And she isn’t bad, just drawn that way!
I realize that most of us grew up on the Wonderful World of Disney, but the fact is since Walt died, it has indeed gone down hill.
I am not a prude by any stretch of the imagination, but some of the innuendo in movies aimed at the younger audience seem very out of place to me.
I mean the ten and under group.
On the flip side, a lot of the new animation and CAD stuff, like the Incredibles, is aimed at, you guessed it, the people who grew up on Disney, and are now adults.
Cars, along with its commercial tie ins and toys at McDonalds, is targeted for the kids, and what would be a some what funny scene for adults is a terrible example for kids.
Disney films lately do not have a very good record of sending a good message to kids, who are thier main audience.Telling kids that racing trains to the crossing is a really cool thing to do is very stupid. This scene should definately be deleted from the DVD version, but I won’t be holding my breath.
So if your children will not be adversely affected by the car racing a train to a railroad crossing, why would they be adversely affected by seeing the homosexual relationship between two men in Brokeback Mountain?
might wanna avoid talking about Brokeback Mountain any further before this becomes a messy arguement
what i find comical about “Cars” is how the environments and vehicles alike are design to look as modern as everything in the real world is today, yet when we get to that part, note the ridiculous design of even the crossbuck sign. how hard is it to animate a white X on a post with 2 red circles flashing in a left-right pattern right under the X? then add that to the train being headed by a carbody unit? if this is modern times, you’d be seeing a hood unit on the front. trains are always overlooked!
