musical boxcar which plays ‘‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,’’ ‘‘Oh Come All Ye Faithful,’’ ‘‘Frosty the Snowman,’’ ‘‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,’’ ‘‘Here Comes Santa Claus,’’ ‘‘Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow,’’ ‘‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,’’ ‘‘Away in a Manger,’’ ‘‘We Three Kings,’’ ‘‘White Christmas’’ and ‘‘Winter Wonderland’’) - - and to top it off, a caboose that illuminates with Mickey’s silhouette.

This is a nice train set. Price isn’t great but not outrageous. Musical boxcars are not cheap. The Season’s Greetings car is nice too. The lighted caboose could be filled with candy. Too bad the train fund is empty right now.

Haha, just caught the line about the “open boxcar with removable load of Christmas trees.”

But it does give me an idea about what to do with a cheap gondola someday.

I didn’t know about the boxcar!! as a seperate item

I see that the transformer is described as “32W”, although it looks like a CW-80.

Would someone please post a link to these items? I can’t find the train set for sale.

Jim

Owner manual shows better transformer:

The “PowerMax” transformer looks like a low-power version of the fine CW-80, without the accessory output (possibly an improvement!). It would seem to be mis-named: “PowerMin” would be more appropriate.

May be it’s just me, but this should be some sort of forum, if you want to sell something, you can advertise in the CTT I guess.

Not that I want to attack someone, but I think it should not be possible to post such, what I would call, “spam” on a forum. If these posts are accepted, then it takes a short time and every trainseller will find his way to this board and dump all his stuff he wants to sell between the other posts. The whole board will then soon be jammed with trainsellers and normal guys having a question only will get answers like “We have the perfect solution for your problem in our shop etc…”

There is no problem with this set, this is not a question, it’s a plain advertisement meant to sell someones stuff.

Just my $0,02…

Daan, I wondered about this one too. There is a policy against selling; but I wasn’t sure whether this is in a gray area, in that njalb1 may be simply pointing out a bargain that he has found and not have a profit motive himself. On the other hand, he has very few posts and no personal information in his profile and may be here only to push the product for Disney or Lionel. Perhaps he would tell us a little about himself and his motives.

We seem to have a few folks who occasionally tout their home businesses, in train repair or layout decoration (telephone poles, e.g.). How seriously commercial does a posting have to get to be a violation of the policy. Can I mention stuff I want to sell here? Perhaps we can get some more detailed guidance from the CTT staff. I will punch the “abuse” button on this topic and see whether we can.

I don’t view this as out of line, or against our policy. You’re simply sharing news about a new product that’s available.

I have a problem when people who are immediately involved in the selling of a product come in and try to use the forum as an advertising venue. If you ever see that, hit the Report Abuse button in the lower right corner of the post.

We have this no advertising policy based on the majority of our readers’ opinions that they don’t want the content here cluttered with classifieds, eBay auction announcements, and outright advertisements.

Thanks for pointing this out. - Bergie

This is no more of an abuse than when I posted about the new LCCA New Haven set last week. I was just making people aware of it’s availability, with no connection to the LCCA whatsoever. This is a similar case.

Jim

njalb1, I meant no offense.

As I indicated to Daan, I couldn’t tell whether you were, as I said, simply pointing out a bargain that you had found or were “immediately involved in the selling of a product”, to use Bergie’s words. Daan seemed to have had the impression that it was the latter. His English is quite good; but the enthusiasm of your hard sell may have given the wrong impression on the other side of a culture barrier in this case. That is why I pointed out the other possibility and invited you to tell us where you were coming from.

I had hoped to get a little more information from Bergie with regard to the last half of my posting, regarding home businesses and such. If he is still listening, perhaps he can expand on that.

Evereyone on this board is in violantion of advertising a product when they praise, ask opinions or knock any train related item on this board. Shedding light on a product for which this board was intented to discuss is not advertising - if someone is posting pictures, pricing or comments on the latest wafflemakers - then that would be a violation. Thats my .02 cents — well minus the coupon would make that set $299.97 … I’ll still pass.

As I said in my post, in advance of the question of it being advertisement or sincere willing to share, I do not attack anyone, nor mean to affend anyone. The fact that I was not alone in guessing about the meaning of this post, makes some sense as well.

When seing this kind of phrases, it reminds me in the first place of a shop wanting to sell something. As with other people here, who indeed have sometimes a small business running in the “train” hobby, these people are here for years, we know them, share their thoughts and even have helped with advice when the company became more then a daydream. If one of them sometimes gives a sidekick to his business, that’s no problem with me, because they also make posts which have nothing to do with their business. They participate like any other forum member.

As stated by others indeed a lot of talk about a particulair make of toytrains or preferences of users of the product made by them, is also a sort of advertisement. Though not directly. You simply can’t discuss the ups and downs of an item without giving the make of it. But there is a difference in discussing a brand, sharing your enthousiasm of your new items and discussing about it, or plain and simple copy the flyer text and picture into a post without adding any comment of your own.

Of course it could be the cultural difference, as Lionelsony suggests. I’ve never been in the usa, don’t know your ways of advertisement communication. But I have learnt that if in doubt, just be clear about what you think of it and ask. Now we all know that this person is not a dealer, but someone who is enthousiastic about something Lionel brought out. And there is nothing wrong with that. Sorry if I upset anyone.
