I want to break up one part of my layout into two scenes, what is good, strong, easy to put up and not to expensive material…

how about sheets of styrene,
looking for about a 2 foot height divider, and want to save as much space as I can

1" thick foam board works well its light weight and does’nt require heavy bracing, it will only curve so much before it snaps though.

and is it easy to work with , painting, etc?

If you don’t need to curve the divider, go to an office or art supply store and get foam core board. It’s light, thin, easy to work with, relatively cheap, and it has a nice, finished surface that you can paint, apply printed backdrops to, etc.
