Does anyone know if this Rock Island Switcher is still sitting around the NRE shops in Dixmoor? http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=665340
Thre are two older SW’s(maroon & yellow) at Silvis as late as 12/15. (Plus the SW-*7 working the elevator at Lubbock still in Maroon paint)
I heard that SW in Texas was repainted by Cargill? As for the Switchers out in Silvis, where were they located? I know those folks are somewhat less enthusiastic about railfans taking pictures around there than thier counterparts in Dixmoor (very nice people at that facility). Where they visable from public ground? I’m very excited at the prospect of catching an “original” rock island unit, never had the chance first time around seeing as they were liquidated 38 days after my birth [xx(]
That’s one of Rock Island’s SW1500s from their fleet of ten which was built in 1966. I thought that following the Rock’s demise, all ten SW1500s found homes on other railroads or industrial operations. Looks like this unit was either odd man out, or did some lease work for a time before returning to languish in storage.
It looks like 942-

The two in Silvis are gone.Shipped out to another NRE facility. They were located in an area you could get a picture from public land.If you do come to SIlvis you can see the rebuilt caboose in the RR Park and get good pics of NRE.
I remeber when they came into SIlvis.Bodies and trucks on four flats. Windows smashed dout motors pretty well shot. I used to deliver to NRE and was told the wiring was all but gone.I got within 75 feet of one and YIKES! But it was cool to see a real live RI loco in RI paint.Sighs the good old days.
I saw those heading toward Silvis in an Iowa Interstate train years ago. I was shocked, to say the least and didn’t have a camera with me.

Does anyone know where they went? Or what happened to the SW that was at the Cargill Plant in Texas? It’s intriguing to think thay they may still be lurking around somewhere, 28 years later, its amazing! And depressing at the same time…
I think they went to Dixmoor but dont quote me on it. Yes I wish I would have had a camera when I saw them back then.
Never knew about eh one in Lubbok. I was down there a bunch when I drove OTR too bad I didnt know it then.
I was in Dixmoor a few months ago and they were’nt there. The one in Lubbock, used to switch the Cargill facility there.
