DM&E

Would it be possible/realistic to have had a DM&E engine on any CNW trackage (outside of DM&E trackage) while CNW still existed?

The DM&E bought the Huron line from the C&NW(with restrictions). The C&NW kept the trackage in Mankato, some in Owatonna and several miles of track short of eastern connections in Winona and Albert Lea. The C&NEW also kept the Rapid City area and connection south to Crawford(BN). This kept DM&E from making direct interchange connections with other railroads. So, yes the DM&E did run on the C&NW all the time, if on rather short segments. Mankato would be a good location, as would the Winona or Albert Lea terminals.

The DM&E has since bought the IC&E(ex Milw lines in Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, & Missouri), as well as getting some of those pesky ‘restrictions’ relaxed(and purchased the Rapid City area trackage/branches from the UP).

Thanks. The more I learn about DM&E the more I like it. BTW, what’s IC&E stand for? I might try to model a DM&E engine in HO.

IC&E= Iowa Chicago & Eastern, same paint scheme as the DM&E.

Ahh…cool! The more I find out about these roads…the more I like 'em!

Atlas is having a current run of GP40 DM&E locomotives, check outsome of the online retailers

Good advice…but $140 is a pile for me now! YIKES!
