DMIR wreck inTwo Harbors, MN in 2010.

ALL:

On 9 30 10, five IC SD40-2’s were destroyed in a derailment and wreck in Two Harbors, MN. All five were XBN locomotives and I believe that the IC removed the dynamic brakes (I have seen photographs and saw one in person).

Can anyone add details to this wreck and confirmed that they did not have DB’s.

Thank you,

Ed Burns

More details than you will likely want to know! Dynamic Brakes did not cause the accident.

Balt:

Thank you as I did not remember (yesterday) that the CN purhcased the DMIR and thus used IC initialed locomotives.

Maybe I’m jst a boring person, but that was a pretty interesting read. Thanks for the link.

Man failure incidents are brutal and churn one guts to read. How something so simple can go so wrong.

Good of the NTSB to let us know that the second locomotive was located directly behind the first one.

Can’t take anything for granted.
