Elliot, that’s a good point to remember about the explosion proof fan motor/wiring box. With a spark, a flash fire could easily occur if the air/paint/solvent ratio was just right. Same about lighting fixtures. We should always think FIRE hazard when using flammables to paint with.
Rex, funny you should mention the eyebrow thing. I’ve done that with the gas grill a couple of times in my life. Both more embarrassing than harmful, like an instant sunburn. I still don’t recommend it.[swg]
About all I do on cars is lightbulbs, wiper blades, batteries, and top off fluids. If they are easy to get at, maybe a hose, filter or belt. I leave oil changes and everything more complicated to the pros. [banghead][%-)][%-)]
Now grilling is a different story.[dinner][dinner][(-D]
Your PPM is so low that it is not a problem. I change water every project. 3 gallons of water with a skim of under 50 ppm is not a hazard. I own a chemical company and the flas point of the mix is it will not burn. NOW if you dump a quart of solvent in or paint using a production spray gun for a car then that is 100% different.
The trick is the ULTRA FINE A/C filter that you put in frount of the suction of the hood, this kilss 99% of the dust before it hits the water.
I am starting to build my 3rd one now.
36" wide
22"deep
42" high
Got a stove hood for $25.00 from the junk pile at Home Depot. Everything else is 1/2" OSB or 2x2.
P.S. I do keep a Halon bottle buy ANY spray hoods including my commercial one for painting my cars.
Sorry it took so long to reply, been MAKING SAWDUST on my CNJrr
George, Thanks for getting back… Sounds like just the venting solution I’m after for the cold months… Snowing like crazy here and the garage isn’t heated… Been making my own dust for work and haven’t had time to get the spraying projects done…
No problem Jeff I have made a deal with the local train club, I supply the money, space, materials and they help build. When finished (at least running) we can keep 8 to 10 operators busy at a time.
I like the idea of the water, I was thinking of trying to use a trash bag filled with shredded paper. Any ideas?
Also, any evidence of the exhaust fan on the top versus the back being more efficient? Seems to me that at the back would mean you wouldn’t divert the paint as much.
When creating your OWN booth, what options are there for suction?
I imagine a household fan can’t be used, as fumes/particles will go into the exposed motor in the rear of the fan. What types of fan should I search for?
