I was wondering if trains are equipped with Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). Given that trains pass through very remote areas that are difficult for first responders to access, I would think these devices could save lives. What does happen if a medical emergency arises with a passenger or crew memebr when the train is in a remote area?
Boston’s commuter rail system, the MBTA, carries them on board every train - I believe in every car, but I’m not sure. On the one class of car I clearly remember seeing them in (single-level Pullman cars) they’re in cases on the side wall of the passenger compartment, above the windows, with a smash-glass-to-remove housing.
Not on freight trains.
