Probably double-stack container cars - colourful, impressive, sadly getting hard to find in HO scale! I guess the reason Ilike them is because they’re so far removed from British container handling equipment, which is all single-deck due to restricted loading gauge.
I love boxcars. I like that you can see different roads in the same train. I also enjoy tank cars. I like ssing all the different company tank cars mixed on 1 train.
Coal hoppers
My wife likes tank cars.
My all-time favorite is a 36 ft single sheathed boxcar with an 8 ft IH running on Andrews solid bearing trucks with a modified K brake system. Needs to have a vertical brake staff.

Billboard reefers are my favourite, just because of the variety of products you used to be able to find. A close second is outside braced box cars, and third would be snowplows. I have examples of the first two, but I have yet to get myself a proper snowplow.

I had a really hard time picking a favorite. I like a lot of MW equipment so I guess that my favorite is old, odd, and rare cars. Especially fallen flags.
Ditto…almost like a travel brochure with all of the various roadnames. I remember seeing cars from all over the country.
I’m fond of the mundane 40 foot boxcar. Simple but they come in a zillion varieties…
I like stock cars. If I wasn’t so much into railfanning the mainline on my model RR, I’d be modeling Union Stockyards in Chicago (or a part of it, anyway!)
I’ve never thought of it before. Now that I do, I kind of like tank cars for all the variety in types and sizes. A close second would probably be the billboard reefers as others have mentioned.
I like covered hoppers. Have 4 industries on the layout that need them.
I keep telling myself that I don’t need anymore but keep on purchasing them.
Boxcars. They vary in a million ways. My favorite is the 50’ wooden braced automobile box.
Thrall Alldoor Boxcars.
It’s a cool design to keep wood products nice & dry.
I have 8 of them & plan on getting more.

Love 'em all, but if I must pick one it has to be my 50 ton Accurail coal cars. There smaller, so its the closest I can get to a unit train.
Yes i do, as a matter of fact the 50 ft RailBox car also the Railgon gondolas any 54 ft covered hopper and any 60 ft tanker as well these are my favorites as i cant settle for just one as far as doublestack cars go seen one seen them all pretty much the same thing to me but with freight cars there is a great variety to see and choose from

Truss rod box cars on archbar trucks.
Enjoy

Center beam flats or covered hoppers.
I’m in love with Cabooses. A modern day tragedy for me is the discontinuence of the use of these wonderful railroady pieces of equipment. Next in line are 40 foot Box Cars. I could see myself having no other car on the layout than box cars. being a Northern Pacific fan, this would not be unrealistic.
Oh, by the way. N.P. 24 foot Cabooses where the neatest cabeese on earth! If you don’t know this, there is no hope for you!
50’ plug door boxcars.
