Do you own a mantle piece or a train piece that you really like?

I like every piece that i own in engines. I would love to put them all out so that i could just look on them piece by piece. I pull my atsf f3’s aba on to my bridge and just imagine what it must of been like to have owned the real ones. [:D] [:D] [:D]

I can’t say I have one locomotive that stands out beyond the rest as to be considered a favorite. I’ve built or modified every loco I run, so they’re all more or less exactly what I want each one to be. Fortunately, I’ve got an understanding wife who lets me take up the shelf space in the family room with my loco collection, so I don’t have the “what should I display” dilema. (I also don’t own many locos, which also makes it easy.)

To me, each locomotive is like a sculpture, so they’re all displayed as such. I’d love to display all my rolling stock similarly, but I don’t have the shelf space. That will eventually be displayed on shelves that will line the stairs going down to the basement.

Hi train me
I have two that sit on the top of the bookcase and china cupboard respectivly
both are live steam with lots of brass bits so when not in use they perform a decorative function.
And must be wiped down properly when in ornimental mode.

aren’t they nice were you can see them in all there glory.

I have an HO locomotive and tender that I have been meaning to put in a shodow box for display for years. Just havn’t gotten around to doing it. Also I have a couple of display selves on the front of my house. I place different cars and locomotives out for display there. Bcause my RR is in the front yard the displayed cars and locomotives look pretty good and add to people stopping by and enjoying the RR. Just yesterday my neighbor accross the street said his young 3 year old was wonerding why the train wasn’t running. He had to tell her it was out of gas. I do try to run it a lot on the weekends and also in the evenings during week. Oh sorry off the subject. Have a great day!

My only “display” engine would be a well loved LGB C&S #6 Mogul.

I don’t display at all as such, however my storage area for all erolling stock and engines is a joy in itself. All in their correct LGB packaging, all with labels to the front so they can be easily selected etc.And this is how it should be!

Not on a mantlepiece, but on a shelf above the closet in the back room.

Actually its all that remains of the overhead layout i built but eventually dismantled, one display is most of the remains of my ubiquitous Colorado stuff I got when the garden RR was still a reality, my 4-6-0 Bachmann BumbleBee, 2 D&RGW boxcars, a MDC D&RGW caboose and my bashed Bmann Drovers Combine. There they will stay as any outdoor layout would only happen if we ever moved to a larger place.

I GUESS I SHOLD HAVE WORDED THE TOPIC R R PIECE DISPLAYED PROUDLY! ON DISPLAY

Well, in the backroom the train shelf is probably the most noticable thing back their! [;)]

It goes clear across the wall![:D]

Thinking of trying to convince the misses to let me store my new LGB Chloe under a display case in the living room. That should be a fun discussion! [:0][:p][}:)][;)][:o)]

I like them all, but if I spend money on something I am dang well going to run it on the track! I have a favorite or two, but like an $80,000 motorcycle, it’s only an overpriced paperweight if all it does is sit. I never really bought into the “collector” mentality, not that there is anything wrong with it, just that it’s not my style.

I don’t display my best pieces, if anybody wants to look at them I’ll put them on the track and hit the throttle. That is (in my own opinion which is worth what I get paid for it, nothing) how a train should be viewed, alive and breathing, not providing a habitat for spiders.

i enjoy all my train’s except i would have a hard time running all 69 diesels and 60 rolling stock on my 2 tracks. plus seeing how im homebound i like looking at the trains from my bed. changeing them from time to time. sorry t j i just don’t get around like i use to. [:(] enjoy your R R happy R R to you all it was just a question. i enjoy mine daily just got back from running them with my newly refurbished cover hoppers.
have a good day! [:D]

No offence to anybody… I was just speaking my mind on the subject. We all should enjoy our trains however we see fit as individuals. Take care![:D]

Have a Bachmann 10 wheeler that I chopped up per instuctions I found in a GR,after detailing and painting makes a great mantle piece…If i had a mantle! cuz it don’t run worth a piece of five year old fudge!!

I really don’t have anything that I would put up on a mantle or display shelf but then again, the only way I would do that would be if the room was train themed. Since the only room in the house that comes close to that is the mud room. It seems illogical to wan’t to display anything there.

I guess my home office/model building spot/music room and or sancuary does have them displayed…kinda. I just finish building them and put them where ever a clear horizontal space is[:D] Dang I need to clean[:0]
