I got a mixed box at my local train show this morning. I had to
because it contained a light gray 588 NYC switcher and an MPC dockside switcher with pullmor motor and no broken parts. The dockside is an all black repaint, though (they did a good job) so that means my family already is wanting to transform it into “Thomas”…
Anyway, I don’t recognize this platform. It has a Marx emblem molded in the underside. It is 6-3/4" x 2-1/4" and has a notch out for something to attach in the front corner. It has holes for something to attach around the edge, and a metal tray which looks 1-1/8" wide
That is the platform for the Marx HO operating boxcar. The car would come up along side the platfrom and a lever sticking out from the bottom of the car would hit the platform and open one door, revealing a figure. Moving the car in the other direction the lever would not open the door. The black part holds onto the track to maintain the correct spacing. Notice all the scratches on the track facing side? Those are from the lever on the car rubbing against it. Those holes around the edge never had anything in them, not sure why Marx added them. The notch in the front corner was so the door on the boxcar would close while in front of the platform, if the notch didnt exist the door would close after the door passed the platform. Thank you @Yellow_Tank_Car for sharing that with all of us. I was wondering if it was HO.
I don’t collect Marx HO. If anyone does and has an orphan boxcar without a platform, send me a private message and I’ll mail this to you.
