Do you still buy the old stuff?? (HO)

Yup. I’ve got a couple of these too as well as some Model Power stuff I picked up new for something like a buck a piece a few years back. I change the wheelsets usually, add the Kadees, and weather. No complaints yet. And if they cause problems down the line, I suppose I could justity pitching them easily. Whatever car fills the bill and runs right is OK by me.

I buy a lot of the old Athearn stuff. Why because it is the same as the new stuff and the place where I buy it doesn’t bother changing the prices from when they first bought it. I can still get a lot of things under $5 if I look around. Selection is not that good anymore but I have bought most of want I have wanted. Helps them by clearing old stock. They have some Proto stuff that is getting long in the tooth also.

Menzies anyone? Cardstock printed sides. The more I put in after the money is spent, the better I like the car. Lindsay

If I’m at a show & see something that will go with what I have in my collection, I’ll buy it.
I have an AHM 4-4-0 V&T steam locomotive with 3 matching cars. If I see another one of these, I’m going to buy one to add to my collection.
They still have the horn-hook couplers on them just as they have since before I was born. And, out of respect for my dad, the origional couplers are staying.
I love the new stuff. Proto, Genesis etc…, but some of the old stuff I still have a passion for.

Gordon

I am like Gordon in this respect, and if I see something that I always wanted. At the OKC show two years ago, I bought just one item, a NWSL N&W E2a, the post WWII version. Nothing else struck me too much. At earlier shows I have picked up metal Mantua Sharks to complete an ABBA set. I have always wanted a set, painted in the Baldwin Demo scheme. The neighbors that gave us (brother and sister, but they lost interest) a 4 x 8 layout that started my in this hobby, had an AB set.

Now, my number one “need” are N&W hoppers suitable for my era. Second is some Pennsy stuff, and maybe a model of the PRR T1 that N&W tested before building the last J’s…and maybe one of the PRR Q2 they tested before building the last series of A’s…

Yep…I don’t buy much, but still buy some old stuff once in a while, if I like the look of it.
…besides, I AM old stuff…[:I]
