I use a PC to control my mainline turnouts and provide the logic for my signal system. I can drive trains on it if I want, but prefer to use my radio throttles through the DCC system. Windows 2000 computer with JMRI decoder Pro and Digitrax DCC. (links have already been posted0.
I have a traditional CTC panel screen on the monitor which shows occupancy of blocks and enables disptatcher to set turnouts and signals or I can change it with one press of a button, it all to ABS for local switch control. Also the Dispatcher can release specific turnouts to local control during op session. We also have ability to utilize a remote dispatcher who it not located on premises. Several times my friend has DS’d from 700 miles distant during op session.
To use CTI’s system, your DCC system must have a computer interface if you want to control your trains. Otherwise you can just use the CTI hardware for controlling signals and turnouts etc.
There are others too. Digitrax systems has a host of add ons that can work for this. Plus they have LocoNet which is very similar to Eithernet as used by computers. I am an NCE fan and have it for my own layout, but our club is using Digitrax.
Not possibly the answer your looking for. But I have two computers working with my railroads operation. One runs an adjustable fast clock (with real time as well) with a digital read out. The other computer creates work (operation) for a 3 hour operating session. Both software programs, programmed by a friend of mine based on ideas from Model Railroader.
