This question may seem odd… I really need a big space for my dream layout. I would be very happy with 100 square meter. So I asked my wife, can we move to something bigger so I can build my dream layout. No no no is the only answer I get so it seems that I must use the space I have. Is this a common problem or is it just me?
CAn be a problem i have a 7 by 8 layout and my girlfriend says all ready im obessed. they just don’t understand trains like us.
This is very typical. What you need to do is tell her how much extra room she will have in a new house. And the extra garden space. Sometimes this works, usually not.

She gets the house; I get the basement.
Sometimes I get sleeping privileges.
We will be adding on, she gets a room for her wants and I get mine for the empire. =)
If we ever relocate, it will be to a bigger home.
Yes, she does. That is why we are converting the garage and the attic space above to a loft. She gets her room, I get mine. I get the garage.[;)]
This was a PreNup agreement. Saying that the jury is still out. However I believe the Judge/CFO has already made a ruling.[:(!]
My wife is the one who decides that we need more space for trains. Train layout is in a 16 foot X 20 foot room room and wife is planning to tunnel through two walls to other rooms. She says she needs more room for scenery.

Divorced 18 yrs ago, bought my own house with extra two car garage engine house in the back yard.
You bet she does. That’s why we have a king size bed.
my wife does not mind what space i have or how much i spend… we changed homes and first thing i did was build a 20’ x 30’ room…fully lined, i also have my boxes of stuff in 2 x of the spare rooms… this month i have spent almost $2000 and she never even blinked… this is because she knows i am at home and not out drinking at the girly bar… it is all give and take…she wanted a new bed…no problem go and buy one… life is too short…be happy… if wife not happy, well what can i say…trains will allways be there… 4 billion other women in the world… oink ! oink ![;)]
What a lovely wife you have [:D]
Guess I’m lucky. We have to move and the wife keeps turning down houses. When I asked her why, she said that my train room wouldn’t be big enough!
Yup,…I’ve got a keeper!
i asked my partener for space for my layout she gave it to me
she chucked me out
It helps when there are other reasons for moving. The size of my previous layout was limited by the fact that I had to allow space for my wife to bring the laundry through into the utility room in the basement. We purchased a rancher with no basement but the garage is fully detached with no laundry facilities. We never considered any house that did not have a garage.
My approach is to leave as much MR stuff sprawled all over the basement so she knows that I am in need of a lot of room. We have decided to fini***he basement, and I told her that I would move my layout to the loft in our “barn”-like garage further down the property. She immediately replied that she likes my layout and likes to know that I am nearby running trains. Soooooo…[:-^]…waiting for the other shoe to drop…I replied that the contractor will not be able to work around what I have (8’X11’ slab), and that I would like to redo the layout to fix mistakes. She gave me a wry grin which was as good as, “Whatever it takes.”
YYYEEEESSSSSSS!!! (step-dancing).
Good for you selector! [:D]
i gess this sorta applies to this…
im really constricted for space.
my mom wont let me add an 8 inch wide shelf around 2 walls of the living room to extend my 4x8 wich is already shoved back into a corner.
the shelf would run behind the couch, and end in about a 4x4 table in a corner that has nothing in it. in all it would give me almost a scale mile of mainline (i guess) and be an improvement overall.
the answer is a confidence-crushing NO NO NO-NO-NO. [:(!][B)][:(][banghead][censored]
I could have had the entire basement if I wanted it.
My plan is to build another room on the house, Maybe 14X14 that should get er done!!
