DODX Flat Cars for Transporting Armor

I am trying to infomration on the specialized flat cars that DOD uses to transport heavy equipment like M-1 tanks. I have pictures showing some TTX equipment but I know they have special flats for tanks, having seen them several years ago at the Oakland Army depot loading M-1s (of course, no camera.) These flats were 50-60 ft long, flat decked, reinforced frame, 3 axle trucks, painted black and marked DODX… I would love to get a line on pictures, drawings and other info.

Try the Military Railroad site on Yahoo Groups. There are quite a few folks on there that know about those flats. Drop me a line I have photos of several of the flats in revenue service.

Slb4,

If you get a “404 Error” at the site Andy suggests, cut the URL back to:
http://www.trainweb.org/marcrailfan
then click on Photos, then Other Railroad Photos, then Department of Defense Diesels & Freight Cars.

Thanks for the help guys, the Trainweb.org/marcrail website was a really big help, excellent pix of the cars loaded and unloaded, they look to be about 75 ft long. Dopes anyone have exact dimensions ? They look to be Peabody roller bearing trucks… ???
