Does Amtrak travel past the Rochelle Cam...?

I’ve been watching for an Amtrak train on the Rochelle web cam but so far have seen none…I suppose the only possiblity would be the Empire Builder and not sure but maybe it travels even farther north to head west. Anyone know…?

The only chance you have at seeing Amtrak on the Rochelle Cam is if it is being detoured for some reason. The Empire Builder runs on (I believe) BNSF trackage through Milwaukee to the Twin Cities. It used to run threough Rochelle, but it was rerouted a few years ago.

Well that answers that…I figured it very well may head farther north as it strarts out and now I have the answer…Thanks.

The Empire Builder runs over the CP (ex Milwaukee Road) to the Twin Cities, where it goes on to the BNSF.

“A few years ago”? Time sure flies!

Actually, Amtrak has never had any regular service to or through Rochelle. The last BN and CNW trains to go to their respective stations in town were in 1971, before Amtrak started.

Both railroads, however, have hosted detour moves.

Speaking of the Rochelle camera, I recently started using Netscape 7, and so far have not been able to see the live images. The archived images come up OK, but the screen is black when I select the live image. Before Netscape 7, I used Netscape 4.79, and everything worked fine. Ditto with Microsoft Internet Explorer. I assume I’m missing a plug-in. How do I get it? Thanks.
