DOES ANYBODY ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM????

I find that when I run my trains during really humid weather that the engines don’t run as smooth and sleek as they usually do,but soon as it goes away they run fine.does anybody know why this happens? Thanks to anybody that can answer this for me.

Your problem may be from your bench work changing with the humidity. Wood will swell up when it gets damp. I had a simular problem with a portable layout. If I put it in the van over night it would warp. I had used very light constuction to save weight and it was not stable in hi humidity.

I suspect there is a bit of moisture on the rails and it is holding dust. Try running a clean cloth (NOT your fingers – those have body oils) first thing before running and I bet you’ll come up with some dirt.

To defeat the problem with wood swelling in humidity, I primed all my benchwork before I did anything else. It sealed the wood and I have not had a problem with warpage. All my track has stayed in gauge.

Of course, people are ultiizing foam more these days - which would solve the problem too.

it sounds like a humidity problem. if you can, invest in a good de-humidifyer. it should take care of the problem. i live in new england and i run mine from early june to the end of september non-stop,but it keeps my basement humidity free, and the trains run fine. good luck
