Does anyone else think this is weird (Amtrak California)

I’m amazed with this beautiful Z scale Amtrak set:

Amtrak Z scale

Ignoring expensive brass models, or even the kit offered by Union Station Products, I’m puzzled why California cars are available in Z scale and not HO. Sure it’s a west coast only prototype, but we have Acela, HHP8’s, and countless other regional models.

Is it just me or is it strange that little Z scale has these before the far more popular HO scale?

I believe the California cars are available in HO. I think Overland produced them in brass a few years ago, I’ve definitely seen them around. The set on eBay looks like it is made of brass, hence the expensive price for it. I’m sure either Walthers or Athearns has these cars on the drawing board somewhere.

I don’t know about the HO version, but I’d sure like to see the interior kits these come with!

I don’t want to get into a thing here, but re-read my post. “Ignoring expensive brass models”. Yes, Overland made a complete California car set. Both in Surfliner and Amtrak California colors. Ran about $450 a car…that is one expensive car. And the eBay Z scale cars say injected molded. I think the seller meant injection molded. But either way they’re plastic.

You’re probably right though that Athearn, Walthers…my guess is Kato, will release plastic versions in HO eventually. A likely problem could be licensing.
