Does Anyone Have Details on this Private Passanger Car?

I snapped a few shots of this car a few years ago down in Lawrenceville, GA, however, it was on a different siding. It appears that the owner does actually use it. It also has a new paint job on most of as well as service dates in 1996. The only markings are the numbers 100 on the side. I got some more pictures the other day, but I still need to develop them.

However, I was wondering if anybody knew who owned this car? If not, then can any of you figure out who the previous railroad owner may have been, or what particular type of passanger car this is?

And while I’m thinking about it. What are the rules for private railcars? I realize that Amtrak has a special set of guidelines, but this isn’t even on an Amtrak route. So assuming that CSX took it down to Atlanta or somewhere, where will Amtrak stop to add on extra (private) cars? Also are people allowed to ride the car while it is on a freight train? I imagine that this could be a very slow journey by freight…

Thanks!
Doug

Doug,

I don’t know where you’d search for private car owners! The roof shape of this car is distinctive and it appears to be a steel “Heavyweight” car originally built with a clerestory roof but modified with an arch roof when fitted with air conditioning. The evenly spaced windows suggest that it was either a coach car or possibly a sleeping car with one type of room when built. Not that many roads rebuilt cars like this, adding stainless steel sheathing and skirting to match later “lightweight” cars.

Well thanks for looking. I don’t know much about passanger cars, so I was wondering if anybody knew anything more.

Try the American Association of Private Railroad Car Owners (AAPRCO):

Thanks for the reply. Here are some more pics…

I just thought that I’d bring this post up again, since I noticed that this car is still there…although the pines in the picture are now gone, and a strip mall is being built. Anybody else have any ideas on ownership or car type?

Two thoughts come immediately to mind

What is the name of the company whose track it is parked on. They WILL know who owns it.

Then ask them. They just might tell you. (And then again, they might not.)

Here is your answer for as to why Amtrak was late that morning. I live along this line too.
