I know this is a model railroad forum…but I was wondering if anyone had scale model cars (if they have them in HO scale) that moved around on a “paved” track? It would be neat to see trains as well as cars move.
Has anyone done this?

Check out the Faller Car System, if you have not already.
I saw a Faller Car System on one of the modular layouts at the Amherst SHow in W. Springfield MA a couple of years ago. They has a number of vehicles that moved, stopped for traffic lights and a bus that stopped at bus stops.
They also are used on the Miniatur Wunderland display in Hamburg Germany

I recently watched a DVD about the Miniature Wunderland layout in Hamburg. All the cars, trucks and buses are controlled (coordinated) entirely by computer so that they don’t run into one another.
From the DVD, the vehicles are battery operated. When battery power for a particular vehicle gets low: The computer senses it, directs the vehicle to the recharging station, recharges it, then sends it back to into traffic again. The bank of computer monitors they have in their control room is quite impressive. [:O]

Boy, just what I need on my Santa Fe. A bunch of HO scale women racing in their little cars to the latest sale on something. No thanks, there is enough moving now on my railroad, including some interesting insects that come down the streets at times.

Well, you can´t deny that this would look VERY cool on any layout:
