Does anyone here live in NEW ENGLAND?

It seams everyone lives out west who posts forums. My favorite railroad is the SL&A RR which is on the Grand Trunk East RR. It goes from Portland, Maine to Quebec City, Quebec. I posted a recent forum about an experience on this RR. If anyone has ever heard of this RR, let me know.

Does Derby Maine count as New England?
Randy

Yep, Maine, New Hamp, Vermont, Mass, Connecticut. So do you know the SL&A RR? That would be cool!

You appear to be generalizing about where people live. Do you consider SE Florida “west” cause that is where I live? [:o)][:p][:)]

I know many of the SLA managers and have helped them solve problems as they also have helped us. I don’t know alot about the SLA but in time I’m sure I will learn more.

I did not know about a rail direct from Portland, Maine, to Quebec City, but I once rode the Friday evening train from Portland to Montreal though Island Pond, and once a steam fan trip from Portland to Island Pond and back. I think the railroad was the Grand Trunk except for the parts in Canada on the trip to Montreal which was Canadian National. Its a very scenic line and I enjoyed both trips immensely.

There are a few of us Yankees on the forum… in fact, quite a few!

I’m glad to hear from Randy that the folks at the SLA have been helpful and friendly – back when (way back when… oh dear) I did some civil engineering work for the Grand Trunk, that was one of our ‘divisions’ and I spent a little time out there. It was a good outfit then, and I’m glad to hear it still seems to be!

To clarify a little bit, it was Canadian National, but the Grand Trunk was the corporate division which took care of the eastern bits in the States – the Central Vermont and what is now the SLA. Not to be confused with the Grand Trunk Western, which managed all the western bits in the States! As far as those who worked on it and for it, it didn’t make much difference… power and crews got swapped around a lot.

I was mistaken, my bad. the line goes from Portland to Montreal, you’re correct. It must have been amazing to take a trip on that line. They don’t have passenger trains on the line anymore, but they might have a special trip someday, I hope. That would be awesome. I live right near Island Pond. I hope to be an engineer on the SLA later in my life.

I’m from eastern Massachusetts.

Hey, breakingbenjamin4444, you kinda forgot Rhode Island in your list of New England states. [:)]

Myself, I’m a Massachusetts boy; born, raised and still here. The Cutlers came to Massachusetts in the 1630’s, and as you can see, we haven’t got too far (other than that side trip to Vermont for a hundred years or so). [;)]

I’m a member of the South Shore Model Railway Club in Hingham, MA. If you’re in the area, look us up.

Weather Or No Go New Haven

nope…I live in the midwest…

I had to visit a project in Three Rivers. The Allouette and the Red Wing had already been discontinued. So I rode one of the two remaining RDC B&M trains to Portland, with one single lady and one couple hired a taxi to the Grand Trunk Station, light the B&M at the time just a platform, and spied the parlor car Allouette on the rear. Wanting to ride the rear patform of the train, I talked to the Steward and found out the car was all sold out. But he said to stick around and by the time the conductor gave the hiball to leave, he determined there was one no show, and I could have his seat. A sandwich dinner was served as part of the extra fare, which I gladly paid, and I did spend most of the summer evening on the back platform without being hassled. I satayed overnight at the hotel at the CN station, then walked over to Windsor Station in the morning and rode a CP RDC train to Three Rivers. The return was via New York using the Washingtonian, and then the New Haven’s Owl from Grand Central to Boston.
