A few for sale, now you have to sell 3 of your children and one of your kidneys to pay for them.

[#ditto] He’s not kidding about the price. Most of the ones I’ve seen have been in $2k range or more. Assuming that you can take that sticker shock, you might try a big brass dealer like Caboose Hobbies in Denver and see if they have one or can get one. The most likely source is still that auction site but every time one of those show up, the bidding war tends to get really out of hand.

Here is the prices they went for on Ebay.

Challenger

$1978.00

$2225.00

$2175.75

$2647.00

Turbine

$2751.99

$2228.00

$2205.00

$2226.00

So I have a idea as to there value.

Thanks

Michael

The Diamond series, including the Challenger, Big Boy and FEF -3 have been one of the best selling Overland models to date.

Good luck on getting one for less than the mentioned prices.

If you want one, be first in line with a lot of cash in hand, or CC in pocket

Cheers

I already know they will cost me between $2000.00 to $2700.00 each. The wife gave me the OK, so that was all I needed.[:D] But now that I have the cash for them I can’t seem to find either of them.

I have searched all of my brass buying places and none are available right now. In the past year, Dan’s Trains had one and I have noticed at least two on Ebay. If you want one, patience is the only way to get it. I waited several years to get some of my most treasured brass models.

The other way is to list the item wanted with several major hobby shops. I will not make any recomendations but most of them would certainly call you if you purchase the item when you call.

You do know that this is the excursion version Challenger with the out of date aux tenders. The tenders have been modified in the past year or so and do look like the model.

The web site below shows the 814 tender and how it looked before and after. Two of the tenders have now been modified.

Cheers

I do know when you can find a #30 Turbine, but is is unpainted. I had considered it since I paint mostly Union Pacific, but decided not to purchase it since it is out of my era. (1940 to 1957)

It is a dual powered A and B model Overland, but an early run and not painted.

I will continue to look as my main interest is Challengers, Big Boys and FEF-3’s, and I follow the market and purchase models fairly often so I am always looking.

Did you know the last model Overland Turbine imported about two years gago only had a powered A unit?? That model is really good for viewing but very poor overall for pulling trains.

That is too bad about just the A unit being powered. BLI had some nice combinations but shoot themselves with unpowered B units that are nothing but bricks to drag. Same with Proto too. I hate to buy something twice to get a completely operational A-B unit.

For that kind of money I would want all but the tender powered.

I wonder if there is a QSI turbine sneaking around somewhere? There is a manual on my work bench that details how to operate one of these units in DCC with the different power situations.

I checked cabbose hobbies, they only have the FEF and Big Boy.

8444 cost $1,225.00

4020 cost $1,795.00

EDIT: They do have a Challenger for $1,450.00 but it is not an Excursion Edition.

Hello 8500HPGASTURBINE, There’s one on ebay since this morning (Mon.,July31/07), sorry I’m not techically savvy enough to paste the add for you.

Happy hunting!

These are unpainted but both the A and B are powered.

Thanks CAZEPHYR, I realized well after I posted that I forgot to say which engine it was from 8500HP’s wish list to top it off (duh)…

I should say that i would want the middle “TURBINE” unit to be POWERED. I have 2 right now that i have painted. I want one that has the factory OMI paint. And come to think of it I am not sure if the “Diamond Series” turbines were middle unit powered. I know that the Diamond series Turbines were no different then regular OMI Turbines. The name “Diamond Series” was just a name his father decided to call a run of Turbines. So they were just like any other run of that year. I saw the ones on Ebay, to bad they are unpainted.

CAZEPHYR ,

Emai me. I would like to discuss the difference between the OMI Challengers better.

Thanks
