Does anyone live in or near Ocean Springs, Mississippi

[8)]I’ll be going to Ocean Springs this Sunday through the next Saturday to help reconstruct some houses. I think we are staying at the First Baptist Church. We will be working during the day but I would enjoy getting to meet anyone on the forum in the evening. I realize the place was hard hit by Katrina and there is much rebuilding still to be done.[:)]

Tough request. It seems some people have dificulty inviting strangers into their homes, Understanable. Maybe some one will be having an operating session in the area and they may extend an invitation as there would be a group of people there to give a sense of security.
I have been asking on this forum about the area I live in but have yet to get any takers. Maybe I need to extend the invitation first.
I know there was a guy on here about a week ago who asked how to best restore his flooded trains. He was in the Katrina path. Maybe he will read this and chime in?
I hope you find an oportunity there and thanks for extending you time and effort for those in need.

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I was hoping they would just stop by where we were staying and we could talk mr for a while. Most likely anyone living there who had a layout lost it in the hurricane.

I hope the depot made it through OK. If so, check it out along with the caboose. The caboose is down near where 90 crosses over the CSX, right before it crosses the back bay.

Smitty, I’ll certainly try to find out.

We have a slight change of plans. We will not leave Columbia until Monday. We are staying at the First United Methodist Church, not the Baptist Church. Evidently there is too much water at the Baptist Church! JJ
If you can stop by in the evening, I would enjoy getting to talk rr with you.

Smitty, I did a map quest and there doesn’t seem to be a CSX or a rail road depot. They only list a “Child learning depot,” Home depot and other non-related depots. I will check on the caboose, however.

Sorry it took so long to respond, but the depot is downtown. There was some sort of art gallery or something to that effect last time I was there. The swing bridge is pretty cool too. I believe that it made it through alright.

Well I got back somewhat OK. I managed to get a finger pinched between some dry wall and an outlet box. I also stapled my glove to my hand. We stayed in the far east side of Ocean Springs but worked on a house in Pascagoula. We stayed at the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. The directing organization was CORE. They were well organized. The lady in Pascagoula was very appreciative. Her son is in Iraq, so helping her was a double blessing for us.
I did see (from a distance) the depot that csmith asked about. Someone told me that it and the caboose were ok.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like everything went well for the most part.

Thanks for doing your part to help those folks.[:)]

Get a picture of that bridge - it stood - the highway bridge came down. L&N built that bridge to stand - it did - the adjacent highway bridge was built to save money - it didn’t!!!

Somewhere I have a pic where you can see the motor car still out there. It also cracked me up to see the porta potty on the bridge. I always wondered about who was cleaning that thing out.
