Does anyone own this accessory?

Has anyone seen or ever owned this accessory that was made by Lionel, the ‘Rotary Coal Tipple’ Part No. (6-32910)? I just noticed it looking at Lionel’s Vol 1 2002 Catalog, and I think its one of the most impressive operating accessories I’ve ever seen, with it turning the gondola car over to dump the coal. I seriously doubt this accessory is available anymore, but mann that wouldve been an awesome accessory to have.

I guess during my idle hobby years I missed out on some potentially good accessories [:(]. Oh well…hopefully something like that will be released again in the future, if it does.

Chris, I’ve been checking the train shows for that item recently. I remember seeing this in the catalog thinking the exact same thing. I haven’t seen any yet, but will still be looking. I think it sold for $200 or maybe $300, don’t quite remember. If I hear of anyone that has more than one I’ll forward the info to you. Dave

I have seen one at Potomac Trading in Kensignton MD (301-949-4000). Its foot print is too large for me and I have passed on it in favor of the unloading ramp from Kline. That tresel might have to come off my layout when I finalize my track plan because of its size as well.

I bought the Rotary Coal Tipple when it came out. Then I had a MAJOR problem fitting it into the layout. The room is only 8 feet by 9 feet and the unit required a rise in elevation of the tracks of about 5.5 inches on 11 trestles going up and another 11 trestles going down. Solved the problem by cutting a space in the layout and dropping the Tipple down about 3 inches. It still ended up in the middle of a curve but it is a SLICK accessory. It challenges your train handling skills as the margin of error in spotting the car is a very small fraction of an inch.

Great accessory.---------READ the directions before you take it out of the box !!! There is one screw set up like an old record player. If you don’t remove it,the tipple won’t work.
We installed one on a friends layout.Works geat once you get the hang of it.

Chris,

Did you get a chance to check out the coal tipple? I remember that from the old catalog. They probably didn’t make to many of these at the price of 495.00. Also there aren’t a lot of layouts big enough to use one of these. If you have the room, go for it.
