I want to buy a DCC Sound Decoder and in the past have bought a Tsunami TS-1000. The Tsunami looked good till I received it in the mail and saw that there was no harness. I was wondering if the LokSound Select had an 8-pin harness because I want to avoid what did last time I bought a decoder.
If you trim the plastic back from the Tsunami you can change the harness to one with an 8 pin. TCS sells them all lengths. Trimming the plastic back doesn’t void the warranty. - Nevin
There are two kinds of connectors commonly found on decoders (and another used generally by European loco makers). One is on the decoder itself and uses 9 pins in a straight row. The other is usualyl found on the end of wires and uses 8 pins in 2 rows of 4. The pinouts of these is standard - so you aren’t limited to using what a given decoder manufacturer supplies as long as the decoder has a 9 pin connector on it. TCS has a wide variety of 9 pin to 8 pin harnesses in various lengths - so you don;t have a foto of wire to try and curl up inside without touching anything. There are also harnesses that go 9 pin to plain wires (what the Tsunami comes with) and Digitrax has one that is 9 pin to the clips used on Athearn Blue Box locos.
