Does this resemble a real loco?

I have this HO scale model that I inherited from my brother that I have attempted to identify without success. It was manufactured by Tyco, obviously back in the 70s. Even the article in Trains about the bicentennial decorated engines didn’t turn up anything that looked similar. As you can see, it has a long hood, high nose, and C trucks. Does this engine really exist, or is it the figment of some Tyco designer’s imagination?

Probably a little bit of both - the design looks familiar but I don’t see a road name. If you look hard enough you can find an Amtrak steamer, I think. Then, again, if Chessie could disco up a real 4-8-4, anything is possible.

It’s a high hood Alco C630 with Tyco’s interpretation of Alco’s tri-mount trucks. Only N&W purchased these (I think). Not a really great model…

This link should be useful to you. It gives a complete history of this model.

Wow, that was more info than I thought I’d get. Thanks, guys!

The C&NW had 'em too.Used mostly in ore service.

Other than the trucks, looks good to me for an alco.

No. It’s a model of an Alco.
