Dog Hair...

No, this isn’t a “how to get it out of a motor”? question.

It’s more crazy than that [swg]

I’ve just been given a bag of hair from a white German Shepherd… and I reckon that I should be able to use it to make tall white winter grass - like the grass on the hill behind my home.

The thing I’m wondering about is how to “stabilise” the hair. Someone out there must know… after all people use this and other hair/wool/fur to make the sort of thread used in fabrcs and string/rope.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Maybe if you googled “spinning and weaving” you might find your answer. BILL

I’m not sure of what you mean by “stabilise the hair” - from watching Antiques Road Shows, [;)] it appears that human hair, at least, can last hundreds of years in lockets and other such jewellery. Most pet owners are still finding pet hairs years after Fluffy has gone to the big kennel in the sky.

I would suggest, however, that you opt for a scenery method other than the white glue and “wet” water treatment: after all, who wants the layout room smelling like “wet dog”? [(-D]

We have six Golden Retrievers. On the days leading up to a big dog show, my wife can fill a garbage can with hair from all the grooming. She sometimes gives it to a girl who makes beautiful sweaters out of it. I know it is washed before she uses it, but I am not sure how or with what. That being said I am quite sure hair would be quite useful in landscaping the layout. People have done great things with old fur coats, so why not dog fur/hair.

Hair spray, try it.
