Doing something new for the rememberance of 911 - What do U think?

Hi Guy’s,

I been away from the forum for a while. Working my 9-5 and on the layout. During these time’s, I was thinking about doing something new and different.
Something that manufacture may do in the future and I already started too.
Since I had 2 undec. SD40-2, I am going to do something special to 1 of them. I live in NY and we all know what happened in 2001. Still feel like yesterday. Anyway, I want to make a “Remember 911” SD40-2 in BN Bicent paint scheme, but lettered for BNSF. I’m just about down to the decals on this project and this loco will have the works as far as details. There’s a 90% chance I will even decal it saying " Pulling for Freedom" The Iraq edtition. The roadnumber will be of course 911 OR 2001 - NOT SURE YET
As I write this, I think it will be 2001. ie; spirit of 1876, 1976, ect

When 911 happened, I thought some manufacure in the U.S would of jumped on this. It probably would of sold like hot cakes too.

When I give MRR up and sell my collection. The money will be from this…
What’s your take af this idea? Am I crazy or not.

P.S. I don’t care about it’s not in my layout era, so please don’t mention it.

THAT IS A GREAT IDEA! I too am suprised a manufacturer didn’t jump on this, heck, I’m a little suprised a real RR didn’t jump on this.

Please give pictures when finished.

Yeah, Them too.

More power to you, but I am in the group that thinks some ideas are too sacred for crass commercializtion. A private honoring sounds good. Some modeling company making a bundle off it is not my cup of tea. I struggle with the movie, but maybe the best honor is for all of us to continue to exercise our freedom, which includes disagreeing and even refusing to participate in a thread such as this. That said, I do want to see the model when it is finished.

Perhaps if a MRR company donated all profits to one of the 9/11 funds??

Donating is the way. For people who live in NY knows that the subway here never had the American flag on it until after 911. Now every car on almost every line and buses have it. No controversy there. I think it would been great for a manufacure to do this. Even if it was a limited Eddition. So people who live outside on NY can have a piece of history in they own way. As well as the real RR to let people know that they are supportive. There are far worst things people are doing right here in NY in support of 911 and they are the acctual victims. I’m not going to say…This is about model trains…

[%-)] They did didn’t they? This event is what inspired Union Pacific’s “Building America” scheme (you know, with the flag and all)

I don’t think so. That scheme was out way before 911 I belleive. UP has 2 schemes like the one your talking about. The other is all blue with stars on the nose. I can’t remeber what else it has.

Nope, it was unveiled on November 16, 2001 for remeberance of the 9-11 tragedy.

Ah, good find. I never knew that. So they are the only one. It’s good they did that., buuuuuuuutttttttttttttt. Why keep it in the yellow & gray scheme and not put in the Blue scheme (Which I think looks better). Next, how would anyone who’s not intersted in locomotive notice that. There’s no markings on it saying so. I love trains and didn’t know that. Now I got to get 1.

Is this the other scheme you are referring to? http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=99032 It was painted for the United Way in the 90’s.

Yeah, that’s it. I wasn’t sure who it was for, but I know it exsist. Thanks for the insight. Oh, did you see the Kato SD-40-2 in that scheme. - Sweet. I saw it on ebay and like 20 people was on it. The price was like in the 200’ s with 4 day’s left. Too rich for my blood. I would love to see someone try to custom paint and decal that. Way too difficult.

I completely agree. Memorial Day sales are bad enough.
I do also agree with the private honoring.

Was it a recent production or from the past?

The worst thing I’ve since 911 was American flag’s being handed out that had “Made In China” printed on them. Sheesh, even the flag isn’t made in this country!

Being aformer service member, I applude your efforts!

Everyday, I wake up remembering those who gave all for our way of life!

“Gone, but never forgotten!!”

Keep’em Rollin’ Partner!

Not sure, Like I said I saw it on Ebay. The same guy had this model too that I never saw in HO before.

Your so right!!! Thanks for the acknowledgement

Gets my panties up in a wad too.
Now, as for a commememoritive item, forget about it. (see my location in my screen name)
There is just too much tacky, made-for-a-quick-buck stuff out there, why make more?
Personally, remembering the lost on Sept. 11 2001 is more than enough. I live with the aftermath every day, I don’t need a train to remind me.
I just look out my front door[:(]

Another idea may be to do one in a Conrail/PRR/NYC scheme. Then it could also honor those other 2 planes that crashed the Pentagon & the PA field. The long hood could carry a “I luv NY” sticker.

I’ll most likely add some cars to my Troop Sleeper train, pulled by an FT AB set. Close behind will be the Smoky Bear train. I’ll find a way to make Nscale US flags to fly on the front of both trains!
