While out delivering pizza that brings lots of possibilities:
Hold my DM&IR GP9 up in the air instead of giving that guy that cut me off the middle finger salute. … Uhhh no officer, it was a toy train engine and not a bomb. … No no no I was not threatening that old guy with 1" thick glasses.
Throw an old $5.00 Marx engine at a dog that chases after me.
Use some drive wheels off of a Scout engine to cut off the burnt parts of a pizza.
Replace my flashlight with an old engines shell filled with batteries hooked up to the headlight.
Replace the stores “on hold” music with the sound of my Wisconsin Central set running in the stock room. Woooo Woooo!
Setup track going out to the dining room to deliver the food and send the wait staff home.
And on my last delivery, use a 1939 scale Hudson to knock out the guy trying to rob me.
I have a few antique pieces in my office 365 days a year. And I bring trains to work often to repair them during lunch or before work begins. Unfortunately, you will never see a photo of them in my office. Absolutely no cameras allowed…
That sounds like a good idea there chief and you could also get one of your real inexpensive sets that you have packed away in a hole somewhere to sell some day and put it around the christmas tree at christmas time.
I have a 4X6 table I’m trying to get done for that day. Will have a Fastrack outer loop and a tublat inner track. I’ll have grass paper and some ceramic buildings fo leading up to Christmas. Most of the people out where I’m at are retired, hope to put the bug in their ears for the season!!
It’s only because I have my own outside office (and the layout will be outside the office), otherwise, yup they’ll look at me kinda weird…!![:-^][sigh]
Right now on my desk is a Lionel pre war 0-6-0 switcher (8976), sloped back Pennsy tender (2228B), and a similar vintage NYC large caboose. They are sitting in front of one of my monitors. I also have a nearly pristine 726 first generation pilot that I got for free at Charles Ro. There’s also a vintage Lionel billboard and some signals here.
I have my newly acquired 2026, my NYC Flyer, and my CNJ BEEP. After all the nice 70F days, today is 40ish and breezy. I was going to do an outside display, but it looks like it’ll fit in my office. Either way, the show must go on!!!
Brought a whole box of trains in today. set them up and ran them, my co-worker was looking to buy some HO stuff for the kids so since I change to S gauge, I had plenty to offer[:)]
Well, I read the reminder. So, I took my train to work today. Only one problem…I forgot that I have been retired for seven years now and when I got off the bus, I discovered that my old work place had been torn down five years ago and the site was a vacant lot.
An hour later, I was home. When, I looked around, saw my desk and computer and realized that this was my “work place”. So, I “played” with my trains. What a GREAT idea. Can’t wait until next year! [:)]
I managed to eke out a 4’ diorama in 5 weeks to take to work today. One or two people thought I had two heads, the rest were really impressed. Unfortunately, like Jumijo, I work for a defense contractor, and cameras in the facility are strictly verboten (strange as it sounds, I like my job, and don’t particularly want to get fired; my only complaint is that while it provides money for the trains, it uses up time better spent WITH the trains).
I have a run of straight Lionel fast trak along the front of my desk, that holds 4 cars. It’s there year round. I swap out a car every couple of weeks for varity. It’ still amazing how many people come in to see if I’ve added any new cars & reminense! I’ve had outside vendors walk in & say “WOW!” when they see them.
I’ve not brought in any engines yet, but my Christmas Beep may make it in this year as it’s small enough.
The maintenance guys have offered to install a high self around my office for running a train. I’m tempted, but I doubt I’d get any paying work done!!
