I bought what must be one of the last N&W 2-8-8-2’s with sound, off ebay now just waiting for the mail (cost me a small fortune, a weeks pay!!)

I’m kind of a reclusive hermit that doesn’t really like to leave the house if I can get by with it, so ebay’s great for me. I’ve both bought and sold from it and on it for a couple of years now.
However. If I wasn’t the mechanic and so forth that I am I would have gotten burned a couple of times by people that sold me junk that I had to repair. Always check the sellers feed back, and don’t buy from anyone that doesn’t have a good history. Make it clear with them ahead of time that if the item is broken or doesn’t work that you can return it to them for a full refund…

I sold some stuff on ebay, I always tell them what the condition is. As long as your are honest about it there are no problems, good feedback.
Never bought anything because I find most items end up being overpriced, especially some european brands like Lima, which is really low quality. Other items are often cheaper by mailorder and new.
Most sellers are regular stores. What I am really looking for at ebay is items that are no longer being made. One of a kind.
Some times people are a little nuts on E-BAY,The one that gets me the most is the seller that trys to make a liveing of E-BAY,that is the guy you have to watch out for![B)]You place a bid,figure to wate tell just before closeing,no body bid so the dealer goes on under a diffrent name and plays bid with you.Or you watch somthing for a few days and no one bids,then the min you bid some one jumps over you.[V]Not all people on e-bay are like that through![^]

I’m done with ebay. Two occurences of identity theft. Lots of hassle. Junk dealers … Outrageous shipping costs. Overpriced items. Misrepresented items… And the list goes on. Who needs it? Buy from the online merchants that have an 800 number and a real person that will talk to you… And most important… someone who will help you if there’s a problem with your order.
Buyer beware, ESPECIALLY on eBay…
I’ve gotten some good deals on ebay but you do have to be careful. Watch the shipping costs! Dan’s Train Exchange is a great ebay train dealer. There are many others. The folks I’ve dealt with have been fine. I’m sure there are some shady types there though.
Ebay is great as long as you buy from people with good feedback. I love Ebay.
I think I will definitly be buying off Ebay in the next few days, sometims you can find some really good stuff!

I found an entire JR500 bullet train from Tenshodo.A 16 car consist.
probably i would have spend a lifetime to bring all the train together.
extra-bonus:all cars have a diffenrent number.
inimaginable the things you find when you look for it and of course,when the opportunity come’s to you.
i would considere myself as very-very-etc lucky on this one.

You’re right “buyer beware” but their are a lot of nice people on eBay. Don’t bid unless you know what you’re buying and what you can get it for at Caboose Hobbies or my LHS. I have no qualm with things being over priced, after all no one is holding a gun to my head to make me bid, I just move on to next buy. I don’t care weather the owner is bidding against me or not - I know what it’s worth to ME.

E-Bay tip: You’ll see a lot of HO or N listed in the G scale area, too, because the so-called “power sellers” who put these listing up sometimes have no idea what they are selling.
I’ve bought more HO scale items from the G scale area than anywhere else, and many times I have been the only bidder because no one else knows it’s there.
I’ve read a lot of posts where people say they’ve been the victim of identity theft. I’m not sure how that happens. I’ve been doing the ebay thing for something like 4 years now without a problem-perhaps I’m just lucky. Could someone perhaps give more details on their identity theft problem as it would be helpful to others so that they don’t become victims too.
I sell a lot of custom athearn engines on e-bay, and I have never had any problems. I take very clear pictures and test each locomotive before it goes out the door. If someone wanted a refund I would give their money back in a minute, My shipping cost never exceed 6.00. I like e-bay
Dave, there are ways to steal identity if you deal with eBay, but its not eBays fault. I received several eamils indicating that my account was placed on hold until payment was received. I knew my account was up to date so I sent the subject email to eBay’s security department. It and the subsiquent ones were all attempt to get me to go to a bogus site, that looked very much like eBay, and provide my userid and password. I’ve neen hit by sites posing as PayPal too.
Bottom line from eBay, if the email does not address you BY NAME (not Dear Customer) it is not from eBay, report it to their security department. PayPal too.
