Doodlebug

Hello ,
I am interested in doodlebugs, and i would like to put one in my future layout, but i am just wondering, during what years were there operation on the PRR

Thank you in advance for all of your help

I’m sorry but I don’t have your answer. I do however suggest that you ask this in the Prototype section of this forum and you might get a better response. Sorry I couldn’t be more help. [V]

Depends on the model and the location. One ran in southern New Jersey until well into the 60’s I believe. They were pretty much relegated to small volume branches. One point worth noting is that with the exception of the 2937 Budd/Michelin experimental stainless steel one that ran on the Norristown branch (when running) they were all Brill cars and unlike the bachman one that is available.

They were used into the 1960’s. The Budd RDC was the replacement I believe.

By the way that was supposed tobe 1937 for the year not 2937 for the Budd/ Michelin car.

thanks for your replies, so could i use a doodlebug with a steam loco on a PRR layout
Im not very knowledgable with trains
( Im only 12 ) anyway thanks alot

Only 12 eh… Welcome to the forum I am 15 and there are alot of us young ones here. Yes you can run a doodle bug along side steam. Stop by the coffee shop thread sometime there are lots of people there and you can talk about anything.

okay thank you very much

Welcome aboard! Bachmann make a very nice HO scale doodlebug though I’m not sure if it’s been offered in PRR livery. If you decide to buy one it may be worth asking the seller for a test run as although mine’s been perfect I’ve heard a few stories about others having problems. Hope this helps!

actually i am going to make the layout in n-scale, my hobby shop offers a bachmann one in PRR paint for $26, is that reasonable

I’d say so - paid £25 (just under $50) for my HO example at a store, they had a large label saying “reduced” so anyone’s guess what they were before. Do make sure you ask for a test run before parting with your ca***hough - Bachmann can make great locos though their quality control seems a little unsteady at times.

26 bucks is very reasonable
also, i think the HO spectrum model is available in PRR
as Matt said, test it first!!!

Don’t know if it is still available, but Spectrum #81406 is in PRR livery.

one PRR one ran by me in the 40-50’s i think it replaced there 4-4-0’s!
