Good news for some very tired ROW
Could it be that Roseburg will reappear on a railway map?
Could it be that Roseburg will reappear on a railway map?
The article suggests that the grant is for the reopening of the south end of the line over Siskiyou Summit, but it does not say so explicitly. Is this the case?
Why doesn’t Oregon just take a page out of the book of that evil anti-rail state, Wisconsin, get it over with, and buy the track? Then turn around and lease it back to Genesee and Wyoming just as Wisconsin Southern leases track. Leave it to pseudo-intellectuals to turn something with profit potential into a welfare recipient.
For the record, Governor Walker is pro-rail. But he isn’t pro-welfare rail. If he was anti-rail, he would have pushed for selling the state-owned tracks months ago.
I wish that the State ff Oregon would look into the possibility of moving Amtrak from the Klamath Falls Line to the Siskiyou Line. What a great, scenic ride that would be!
Or, maybe, just add a state-supported Amtrak train from Portland to Ashland.

According to another article I read, I think it might’ve been on the online version of Railway Age, the entire line is involved for reopening - not just the Oregon portion. Does anybody else know for sure?

Haha! I’m sure the Campaign Contributions to Scott Walker didn’t hurt from Wisconsin Southern.
