Double Check (update)

Construction has begun. The first “Module” frame is up and standing in its place. Also made my first mistake. While building the frame I forgot to allow for the boards on each end when cutting the side frame pieces to length. So the frame was one and one half inches too long to fit in the space. So I took one end loose and “cut” one and one half inches out of each side pieces. Reassembled the frame and slid it into place.

Note: Check your measurements two, three or even four times before cutting.

While the other modules are just as important, module #2 was the hardest one to fit so I made it first just to get it out of the way. Pictures to follow.

(Update) march 20. Modules 1 and 4 frames complete, with plywood tops.[:D] Now to clean up a bit to have some room to work.[oops]

Remember what Mr. Murphy has to say about this – “I’ve cut it 3 times, and it’s still too short!” [oops]

I think I saw another post where you showed your proposed benchwork plan. Glad you have started it. Measure twice, cut once. I also had benchwork in front of a closet door. I took the door off and hung a sky-blue floor length curtain up. Just a thought as I can’t remember what you said you were going to do with the closet door. I used the same color curtains for the windows too.

Elmer.

Thanks for making me smile on this monsoonish day! That was my grandfather’s favorite expression. He used to say it this way “Drei mal abgeschnitten und immer noch zu kurz!” He must have it from a German cousin of Murphy.

I had just that very thought the other day as my bench work setup will leave a height of 45 inches from the floor to the under side of the bench work of usable storage space. And should be more then enough space for accessing the closet. As for storing the door I will lay it on its side under one of the longer modules and lean it against the wall. And plan to use cheap sheets as skirting around the layout to hide anything under the layout anyways.
